Captains Welcome

Foreword from the Captain 2024

I am honoured to have been asked to be Captain during 2024 and look forward to working alongside our Lady Captain Ros Waterhouse, our excellent Professional Craig Morris, and our Vice-Captains Mark Allan and Lynda Moore.

Retford Golf Club is a friendly and welcoming Club. Our Directors and Management team are forward thinking in their approach to Golf, and the future development of the Club.

We are fortunate to have an excellent and challenging course which is kept in tip top condition by a team of greens staff superbly led by our Head Green Keeper, Carl Pigott.

My goal during my Captaincy is to maintain the Clubs ethos, be open and approachable to all members, and to welcome new members and guests that I interact with.

My chosen Charity for the year is My Name’5 Doddie foundation, named after Doddie Weir OBE, one of rugby’s most recognisable personalities, who was struck down with Motor Neuron Disease in 2017 and died in 2022. The foundation has a vision of a world free of Motor Neuron Disease through its mission is to fund, guide and enable the smartest, most efficient research to expedite the development of new treatments, and ultimately cure MND.

Foreword from the Lady Captain 2024

I am looking forward to my Captaincy year working with Club Captain, John Flavell, and Vice Captains, Lynda Moore and Mark Allan.

Since joining Retford Golf Club in 2019, I have served on the Senior Ladies Committee for the past four years and, during the past year, on the Ladies Section, Management and House Committees.  I have learnt a great deal from the expertise of Committee members about how the Club is run.

During the coming year I look forward to welcoming new lady members to enhance our friendly Ladies Section, whether they be ladies transferring from other Clubs or graduating from the taster sessions run by James Freeman over the past year.  I am delighted these sessions are to continue in 2024 to encourage a new group of ladies to take up golf.

I would like to see more mixed golf played at Retford in addition to the Middleton Rose Bowl, Harry Fitzakerley Trophy and the mixed Sunday Friendlies.  I will try to encourage more members to take part in future mixed competitions.   Also, I am keen to revive the Club’s Social scene.  The attendance at a Race Night in October 2023 was encouraging so hope to build on its success.

My chosen Charity is the NSPCC Nottinghamshire, who work throughout the County to keep children safe.

Changes are coming to Retford Golf Club and I want to take this opportunity to thank Craig Morris and Diane Moore for their help and support.  I have known Diane many years and it was through her that I transferred to play at Retford.  I wish them both well, Craig in his new role and Diane in her retirement.
